Ingredients

Ingredients:
1lb (0.5kg) unsalted butter
2 cups water
1oz (28g) decarboxylated, finely-ground cannabis. (View the decarboxylation video here)
Additional water

Equipment:
Spatula
Stove
Large saucepan / pot
Whisk
Large glass bowl
Strainer/Sieve to fit over glass bowl
Cheese cloth
Plastic wrap
Knife

Directions

  1. Heat the butter and 2 cups of water to a rolling bubble (not boiling)
  2. Add the ground cannabis
  3. Stir with whisk
  4. Cook at a medium-low heat / soft bubbling for 5 hours
  5. Check the pot and stir every 90 minutes
  6. Add additional warm water if needed
  7. After 5 hours, place strainer on glass bowl, and cover with cheese cloth
  8. Pour cannabutter mixture slowly through the cloth
  9. Work the cannabutter through the cloth using the spatula
  10. Fold the cheese cloth and squeeze the remaining cannabutter out with the spatula
  11. Wrap bowl in plastic and set in fridge for at least 3 hours (overnight is better)
  12. Use the knife to cut around the edges of the cannabutter and remove from bowl (discard the water)
  13. Scrape any particulates off the bottom of the cannabutter
  14. Store in fridge or freezer in a glass jar

I just made my first cannabutter but I did it in 2 hours and it turned out great! I didn't have to do anything except add ingredients Lol. I know I cheated, you see I am very ill with RSDS on my entire right side and COPD! So now see why I cheated I can't stand up for long and can't smoke so butter here I am and loving the relief. I used a machine called magical butter machine and it's not a challenge to add 3 ingredients, turn it on and take a 2 hour nap! Check it out.

I used 1 stick of butter to 1/4 bud and simmered it 45 minutes. I only yielded 1/4 c. cannabutter.
Did I do it wrong?

I was curious to know if there was a method to infuse butter or oil with concentrates (wax or hash ) or would I just be wasting good product

V has it down.... thats the method I use except I do it with 3 10 qt pots... filling half to 3/4 full of trim and scruff.... add 5-6 lbs of butter....and fill with water an inch from the lip...margerine doesnt work...thc cbd and cbn's bond to the fat molecule in the butter... I prefer unsalted butter as well.... I found a tshirt works better than a cheese cloth for straining and squeezing out the butter from the debris... hope this helps .... have fun in the kitchen making a mess is the funnest part lol

This was a lot of help! I put mine into a butter stick mold container and tossed them into the freezer. Will the freezer hurt or limit the longevity of my butter?

Guys/Ladies i was making my butter when i found out that my mom was on her way home. This forced me to just stop where i was and throw my butter in the fridge. I never got to strain the weed from the butter, does this make a difference if i eat it?

I make butter all the time. I use approximately 1/2 to 1 oz of trim from kind bud for every pound of butter. I melt the butter in water and add my trim. I simmer it for 3-4 hours, stirring about every 5-10 minutes. When my butter is a dark green and very glossy I strain it and let it chill for a minimum of 12 hours in the fridge. Drain the water and shazam I have amazing butter. I use it in place of any recipe that calls for oil. I do not grind up my trim or any bud that I may use. I find that on the stove, 3-4 hours of simmering gives me the same quality as 8 hours in the crock pot. I just made some butter this morning that is so dark it looks like spinach water. I am very excited to try the treats I make.

I think some people are missing the point of making cannabutter. You aren't trying to get all of your pot into the butter. The thc will bind to the fat in the butter while cooking it ( or any fat for that matter). That's why you leave it coarse and strain it out. If you are grinding your pot into a powder you may as well skip the butter and just toss it in the mix. You are essentially doing the same thing by not straining out the plant matter. I'm not saying it won't work but why make the extra effort when your brownies won't be reaching their full potential anyway.

Margarine is NOT like butter and is for the most part very BAD for yo so it does not make a good substitute well in any situation really.

I just made this recipe last night I just winged it as this recipe does not give you any hints or much detail. I did not use water like most people are saying to use just butter, pot and a cheese cloth for staining. I simmered it for a hour and a half as I wanted to get the most of it but did not have time to do it for 24 hours like some peoples recopies I have seen and I thought 30 mins was low. My pot butter is dark green color tasts great smells great and because I ground it in a coffee grinder till it was almost poweder ther are no bits or pieces just clear green yummy pot butter. I used 1 pound butter and 17 grams of some good trimmings. Now I just have to see how the stone is I am working all day so I will let you all know how it is later this evening! I think it turned out great.

Oh ya.. as far a bud to butter ratio. I normally use 1/2 oz of shake/trim to every stick of butter I make. If you are using kind nug then much less is needed. However I'd smoke the kind. But thats just me.

This way of making butter will not get you good results. The best way to cook the butter is with a crock pot on low for 8-10 hours. If you dont have a crock pot use a double boiler. If you dont have a double boiler at least put the stove on simmer. Over heating will ruin your butter, about 220 is the perfect temp to cook it at.
